At just 6 years old, *Salma* has already demonstrated remarkable resilience. She contracted HIV from her late mother, who passed away when Salma was only two years old in 2022. Salma's relatives were unaware that her mother had died from an AIDS-related illness, as she had not disclosed her condition to anyone. Salma's journey has been filled with challenges, including frequent illness, weight loss, and a weakened immune system.
One of Salma's relatives suggested that they take her to Alive Medical Services for clinical support, regardless of the costs involved. Since Alive Medical Services prioritizes HIV testing for all patients, Salma's guardians agreed to have her tested. Unfortunately, the test result came back positive for HIV.
Salma's guardians were not worried because they were told Alive Medical Services was the best. She was immediately enrolled in a comprehensive paediatric HIV care program where her guardians were supported with proper nutrition techniques and overall well-being, so Salma could grow up into a healthy and happy child.
Salma's health took a positive turn thanks to early diagnosis, consistent antiretroviral therapy (ART), and the unwavering support of her caregivers and the health team of Alive Medical Services. Today, she is full of energy, laughter, and dreams. Her viral load is undetectable, she rarely falls ill, and her growth milestones are right on track. One of her favourite activities is riding bikes with the babies at the facility during her appointment days.
Salma now attends school, plays with her friends, and lives a happy childhood just like any other child. Her caretaker, who receives regular counselling on how to continue supporting Salma, says, “The support we receive gives me hope every day. Salma is healthy, strong, and ready for a bright future.”
Salma’s story is a powerful reminder that with timely diagnosis, proper treatment, and a supportive environment, children living with HIV can live long, healthy, and joyful lives.
