Welcome to our fifth Testimonies of Love! There is a lot of love to celebrate this week, as today marks AMS’ 9th anniversary! It is incredible to reflect on the work that has happened over the past nine years, growing from 6 patients to 13,000. Nine years later, love remains at the foundation of all of the services that AMS provides – from laboratory testing to maternal health. Please join us in celebrating 9 years of providing high-quality, comprehensive HIV care with love and dignity.
“The fruit of faith is love, and the fruit of love is service.” – Mother Teresa
At AMS we show our clients love on a daily basis. One of the ways that we express our love is through the unique, comprehensive, client-based approach that we provide every service through. Among these services, AMS staff members begin everyday by conducting health talks for waiting patients. These health talks cover a wide range of issues, from treatment adhere to family planning, all supporting our clients’ general wellbeing.
One client, Justine, spoke enthusiastically about the impact of AMS health talks – which have empowered her to manage her own health. She greeted a doctor saying, “Musawo [doctor], I love AMS and all you doctors! You love us [patients] so much and even teach us everyday to defeat HIV! I am so grateful for the morning health education [talks]. I now understand what HIV is and what it does and how is does it. So I now understand that if I take my medicine very well and on time, [my] viral load will be suppressed, CD4 [count] will go up, and I won’t fall sick often. I know HIV very well and I can fight it. Please continue giving us those health talk messages. Thank you, loving doctors.” – Justine, AMS patient
**The idea for Testimonies of Love was born out of AMS’ daily morning staff meetings. Every morning, before the clinic opens, staff members gather to share time, testimonies, prayer, song, laughter, and love. Sitting among the staff members you hear testimonies of love and world-class medical care from across our different departments: from rubber glove balloons that make children smile at the laboratory to deep, trusting conversations conferred in the youth wing. At AMS every day begins on a foundation of love for one another.
Best wishes until next week,
Dr. Pasquine N. Ogunsanya and the AMS Family
