Welcome to our third Testimonies of Love email! We continue to be overwhelmed by the positive, kind, and supportive feedback that we have received from many of you. Last week, we were amazed when a supporter was moved to donate $300 to our work. Thank you all – we deeply appreciate your support and encouragement! Please continue to share your feedback and stories of how you have seen AMS display love.
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
This past week we hosted an inspiring conversation with our youth about the power of providing love and dignity in comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services. AMS youth patients belong to a special and unique member-led program called Victors Club. We were impressed by our Victors Club members’ wisdom, courage, and thoughtfulness.
One of our Victors Club members expressed what makes the relationships shared by group members so special: “Getting a hug from one another – you feel loved unconditionally – people really care about one another.” – Victors Club Youth Leader and AMS Patient
Last Monday, one of our staff members in the laboratory had a chance to catch up with a long-time patient. The patient recounted his body’s weak condition when he was first brought to AMS: he weighed a mere 26kgs and required help with basic daily activities including walking and eating. Now, just 3 years later, he weighs 68kgs and is very grateful for the high quality care and comprehensive HIV services that he has received from AMS. He thanked our staff member for the good work that the organization does in the community to save lives and families. “Musawo [a Luganda word for health worker] your love and genuine care brought me back to life, Thank you!” – Abdullah, AMS Patient
**The idea for Testimonies of Love was born out of AMS’ daily morning staff meetings. Every morning, before the clinic opens, staff members gather to share time, testimonies, prayer, song, laughter, and love. Sitting among the staff members you hear testimonies of love and world-class medical care from across our different departments: from rubber glove balloons that make children smile at the laboratory to deep, trusting conversations conferred in the youth wing. At AMS every day begins on a foundation of love for one another.
Best wishes until next week,
Dr. Pasquine N. Ogunsanya and the AMS Family
